Glycolic Peel

This cosmetic procedure is particularly effective for caring for problematic and aging facial skin. Cosmetologists and dermatologists agree that glycolic peels are uniquely effective. Depending on the concentration of the active substance, they can be superficial or medium-depth.

What Is Glycolic Peel?
Glycolic acid is synthesized from sugarcane. It effectively loosens the stratum corneum of the skin and improves tissue blood supply. Acid molecules penetrate deep inside the epithelium and intensively affect the cells.
Glycolic peels are suitable for all skin types except sensitive skin. They are permitted for individuals aged 15 and older (with acne). One of the undeniable advantages of this cosmetic procedure is its effectiveness. Noticeable results can be seen after several sessions and last for a long time. Additionally, the recovery period after each session is no more than seven days. During this time, the top layer of the skin is completely renewed. The interval between procedures should be about a week.
Cosmetologists recommend performing glycolic acid peels in the autumn-winter season. During this time, solar activity is reduced, making recovery after cleansing faster and easier.
Indications for Glycolic Peel
Glycolic peels are a necessary procedure as part of anti-aging and anti-acne therapy. Its use is justified in the following cases:
- Acne and breakouts
- Hyperpigmentation, a high number of freckles, and photo damage
- Loss of skin elasticity
- Wrinkles of varying depths
- Thickening of the stratum corneum of the epidermis
- Scars, stretch marks, and fresh scars
- Enlarged pores
Chemical skin exfoliation can serve as a preparatory step before mechanical or laser resurfacing and plastic surgery.
List of Contraindications
Glycolic chemical peels are not recommended during exacerbations of chronic skin conditions. Avoid the procedure if you have recently been exposed to the sun or have had an acute infectious disease.
People with a tendency to develop keloid scars and the appearance of spider veins should also avoid glycolic peels. This procedure is not suitable for individuals with dark skin and dark hair. Pregnant women should opt for a different treatment.
Results of a Glycolic Peel Course
Dermatologists emphasize that the effects of glycolic peels should be evaluated only after completing the full course. If the procedures were performed properly, the results will be noticeable and long-lasting:
- Skin's protective properties significantly increase
- Pores shrink, sebaceous gland activity normalizes
- Skin texture evens out
- Pigment spots, wrinkles, and stretch marks become less noticeable
- Acne breakouts gradually disappear
- Skin becomes more elastic, and the complexion becomes more even
Glycolic chemical peeling makes the skin more receptive to other cosmetic products. This means that subsequent procedures with a cosmetologist will be more effective.
The Procedure of Glycolic Peel
The preparatory stage begins 14 days before the actual glycolic peel. During these two weeks, you should treat your face with a special cream containing a low concentration of glycolic acid. This prepares the skin, softening the dead cells.
On the day of the procedure, the cosmetologist cleanses the face, removes excess sebum, and makeup residues. The skin's acid-alkaline balance is restored using a toner. Then, the glycolic peel preparation is gently applied to the face with a fan brush. Experiencing mild discomfort during this stage is normal.
The active substance is neutralized with a special neutralizer after 15-20 minutes. Afterward, the skin is moisturized with cream or a mask. Before going outside, it is essential to apply a product with UV protection.
