How do we work with lightening?

Lightening is one of the most demanding color treatments. The results depend not only on the technique but also, and above all, on the hair’s initial condition, porosity, and previous chemical treatments. That’s why at PIED-DE-POULE, we begin every appointment with a consultation—without it, safe and predictable results are impossible.

We lighten natural, dyed, and gray hair. Lightening gray hair requires special care—gray strands react differently than pigmented ones, so choosing the right concentration and exposure time is crucial. The same applies to lightening the ends of your hair—the ends are usually more porous and absorb the lightening agent faster than the roots, which directly affects the final shade.

The price of lightening hair at our salon depends on the length and density of the strands, the chosen technique, and the amount of products used. We don’t use a fixed price list—every quote is fair and based on actual time spent. It’s best to drop by the salon and discuss—we’ll choose the option best suited to your hair and expectations.

We do not lighten hair in poor condition without prior reconstruction. If hair is excessively damaged, brittle, or has undergone a failed coloring process, we first recommend appropriate regeneration and strengthening of the structure of the strandsThis is not a formality — it is a condition for good results.

After lightening, many clients decide to even out the shade and lock in the color — a subtle tone correction that evens out the result and enhances shine. Lightening is often the first step in a more complete color change – if you’re planning a more comprehensive transformation, it’s worth familiarizing yourself with other coloring techniques available in the salon.

Contraindications to the treatment include active scalp irritation, a recent perm, or severely damaged hair structure. In each of these cases, we will inform you of this during your consultation—before we apply anything to your hair.

How is the procedure performed?

01
Hair consultation and assessment

We assess the condition of the hair, its color history, and porosity. We determine a realistic result and action plan based on what we see.

02
Product selection and concentration

We select the lightener and bleach for each specific case. Dark or previously colored hair may require more than one lightening step.

03
Application and process control

We apply the product precisely, monitoring the exposure time on each section of hair. This helps avoid overheating and uneven lightening.

04
Rinse and evaluate the effect

After rinsing, we evaluate the resulting shade and decide whether a color correction or locking in is necessary. This is done immediately after lightening.

05
Regenerative care

We apply a mask or product that rebuilds the hair structure. This is a mandatory step in every lightening treatment at our salon.

06
Styling and recommendations

We dry and style your hair, then discuss home care—what products to use, what to avoid, and when to return for another appointment.

FAQ

  • Does bleaching always damage hair?

Not if done correctly. The key elements are: assessing the hair’s condition before the treatment, selecting the right products, and regenerating it immediately after lightening.

  • How much does hair lightening cost at PIED-DE-POULE?

Prices are determined individually and depend on hair length, condition, and the scope of the treatment. Please contact us before your appointment for an approximate quote.

  • Can I lighten dark dyed hair?

Yes, but it usually requires several steps and a careful assessment of the hair’s condition. During your consultation, we will determine what results can be safely achieved.

  • How long does the brightening effect last?

Lightening is permanent—your roots grow back in their natural color, but the shade itself may fade without proper care. We recommend regular masks and shampoos for lightened hair.

  • Is lightening possible on sensitive scalp?

It depends on the degree of sensitivity. Active irritation, dandruff, or damaged scalp are contraindications. In any doubtful cases, we assess the skin before treatment.
