How do we work with color?

Hair coloring is one of the most broadly understood hair treatments—it encompasses both full, uniform coloring and precise techniques for highlighting selected strands. The choice of method depends on the initial color, hair structure and condition, and the desired effect.

With full color, we dye the entire length—from roots to ends—with one or more shades. This is the most common form of color change: covering gray, changing the tone, going from dark to light or vice versa. Coloring gray hair requires particular precision when choosing the shade—gray strands have a different structure and absorb pigment differently than pigmented ones.

Dyeing the ends of your hair is a separate category—you apply the color only to the selected section, without touching the roots. This is an option for those who want a minimal change or are experimenting with color without a long-term commitment.

Hair coloring prices and the cost of coloring a specific technique are always provided after a consultation, prior to the procedure. They depend on the length and density of the strands, the chosen method, and the number of products used.

Contraindications include severely damaged hair or severely irritated scalp. In such cases, we recommend rebuilding the hair structure before coloring.

At PIED-DE-POULE, we offer a full range of coloring techniques. Each has a dedicated page with detailed descriptions, procedures, and pricing:

How does coloring work?

01
Consultation and assessment of hair condition

We review the base color, the current condition of the strands, and the extent of any previous chemical treatments. We determine the technique, shade, and range—so that the result is predictable and safe.

02
Selection of paint and preparations

We select a dye for a specific application—color, oxidant concentration, and exposure time. For previously colored or lightened hair, we consider the chemical history of the strands.

03
Color application

We apply the dye section by section, using the method and order appropriate for the chosen technique. For uniform coloring, we work from the roots, while for streaking techniques, we follow an individualized scheme.

04
Uptime control

We monitor color development on each section of hair. Processing time varies depending on the technique, initial tone, and desired effect—we don't follow a set schedule.

05
Rinse and assess color

After rinsing, assess the color's evenness and intensity. If necessary, make spot corrections before proceeding to care.

06
Closing care and styling

We apply a cuticle sealer, dry and style the hair. We discuss home care—how to maintain color and when to return for a refresher.
